Mini-Book Fold Template
8-page foldable booklet, blank.
The mini-book fold template gives students a single sheet of paper that, once folded and cut along one line, becomes a charming 8-page booklet. Each page is left completely blank, offering a pocket-sized canvas for stories, reports, vocabulary books, science journals, step-by-step how-to guides, or any writing project where a cover-and-pages format motivates young authors. Students from kindergarten through grade 6 can make one in under three minutes with no staples or tape required. Teachers use it as a quick formative tool — assign a mini-book at the end of a unit and see how students organise and sequence information independently. The tiny format is surprisingly motivating: children take pride in 'publishing' a real book they assembled themselves. Print one per student and fold together as a class for a satisfying hands-on literacy routine.
Learning objectives

How to use this template
- Print the template on one side of a standard sheet of paper — landscape orientation.
- Fold the paper in half lengthwise (hot-dog fold), then unfold and fold in half widthwise (hamburger fold) twice.
- Unfold completely and make one short cut along the centre fold between the two middle panels.
- Refold lengthwise and push the two outer ends toward the centre to form the 8-page booklet — pages will fan open naturally.
- Students label the cover, number pages if desired, then write and illustrate each page for their chosen project.
Classroom & home ideas
- Retell a story in 6 illustrated scenes with a title page and author page — a complete book report in miniature.
- Create an alphabet or vocabulary mini-book where each page features one key word and a drawing.
- Use as a science-process book: cover = topic, pages = hypothesis, materials, steps, results, conclusion.
- Students write personal narratives about a memorable event, one moment per page.
- End-of-unit 'what I learned' books make excellent portfolio items and parent-conference conversation starters.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any special tools to make the mini-book?
Just a printed sheet, scissors for the single centre cut, and hands for folding — no staples, glue, or laminator required.
How many pages does the finished booklet have?
The standard one-sheet fold produces 8 pages including front and back covers, giving 6 interior pages for content.
Is this suitable for kindergarten students?
Yes, with teacher assistance for the folding and cutting steps. Most kindergarteners can manage the writing and drawing independently once the booklet is assembled.
Can I print double-sided to get more pages?
The single-sheet template is designed for one-sided printing. For longer projects, pair multiple folded sheets inside each other (saddle-stitch style) and staple along the spine.
