About this simulation
Friction is a force that resists sliding between two surfaces. It equals the coefficient of friction (μ) times the normal force pressing the surfaces together (f = μN). Rough surfaces (high μ) produce more friction; pressing harder also increases it. Students can change coefficient of friction and normal force and compare what happens. Use it for physics inquiry with Grades 4–5, Middle School, and High School on a projector or student device.
