A grid that matches your room, with room to spare

Set rows and columns from 2 to 8 each (the default is 5 rows by 6 columns) to roughly match how desks are actually arranged in your classroom, with the "Front of class" label always at the top so the layout reads the same way your students see the room. It's fine for the grid to have more desks than students — extra desks simply stay empty. If your class list is longer than the grid can hold, the names that don't fit are listed separately as "Unseated" both on screen and on the printed PDF, so nobody quietly disappears from the chart if the numbers don't match up.

Fine-tune with a click, not a fight with drag-and-drop

"Fill seats" places the whole list in order; "Shuffle" places it in a fresh random order using the same secure randomization the picker tools use, so results aren't predictable or repeatable. Once the grid is filled, click any desk and then a second desk to swap the two students — or move one student into an empty desk — without reshuffling everyone else. That click-to-select-then-click-to-swap interaction is deliberately simple: it works the same way with a mouse, a touchscreen, or a keyboard, so adjusting one seat for an accommodation never means starting the whole chart over.
