Heart & circulation

About this simulation

The right heart sends blood to the lungs. The left heart sends oxygen-rich blood to the body. Valves keep blood moving forward. Chamber cavities, heart walls, valves and major vessels. Red and blue distinguish oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood; blood is never blue. Students can change Heart rate and Stroke volume and compare what happens. Use it for biology inquiry with Grades 4–5, Middle School, and High School on a projector or student device.

Standards: NGSS MS-LS1-3

What students can explore

  • Select a structure, then isolate it to look closer.
  • Heart wall · Right atrium · Right ventricle · Left atrium · Left ventricle · Heart valves · Pulmonary arteries · Pulmonary veins · Aorta · Venae cavae
  • Illustrative sequence · timing not to scale

Learning objectives

  1. 1Predict how changing Heart rate will affect the visible outcome, then test the prediction.
  2. 2Use evidence from the live calculation and visual to explain the result.
