How to Teach Handwriting (Free Practice Templates)
KiwiBee
Neat handwriting is built on posture, pencil grip and consistent letter formation — not just practice. The right lined template makes the targets visible.
How to teach handwriting
1. **Check posture and grip first.** Feet flat, paper tilted, relaxed tripod grip. 2. **Teach letter families,** not the alphabet in order (e.g. c, a, d, g, o). 3. **Model formation** with a clear start point and direction every time. 4. **Use guidelines.** A top line, dashed midline and baseline show size and proportion. 5. **Practise little and often** — short daily bursts beat long sessions. 6. **Join when ready,** once single letters are secure.
How to use the free template
The template provides primary handwriting guidelines with a box on the left to show the target letter. Print it for letter-formation practice, name writing, or daily warm-ups. Laminate a copy for wipe-clean repetition.
Quick tips
• Watch the start point, not just the finished letter.
