Sliding Tiles

This is a 3D version of the classic 8-puzzle. Clicking a tile in the same row or column as the gap slides it, and arrow keys also work. The Shuffle button makes random legal slides from the solved board, so every start can be solved, and sliders set how many shuffle slides are used and how fast tiles move. Readouts show moves, best score, tiles in place and state. Teachers can use it for logical thinking and planning ahead, and to discuss why only half of all arrangements are reachable.

• Press Shuffle, then click a tile beside the gap and watch the Moves count increase.
• Use the arrow keys to slide tiles without the mouse and compare how it feels.
• Watch the In place readout and aim to fix the top row first, then the rest.
• Raise Shuffle slides to 120 for a harder start, or lower it to 10 for a quick puzzle.
• Solve the board twice and try to beat your Best number of moves.
