Sliding Tiles

Tentang simulasi ini

This is a 3D version of the classic 8-puzzle. Clicking a tile in the same row or column as the gap slides it, and arrow keys also work. The Shuffle button makes random legal slides from the solved board, so every start can be solved, and sliders set how many shuffle slides are used and how fast tiles move. Readouts show moves, best score, tiles in place and state. Teachers can use it for logical thinking and planning ahead, and to discuss why only half of all arrangements are reachable.

Yang bisa dijelajahi siswa

  • Press Shuffle, then click a tile beside the gap and watch the Moves count increase.
  • Use the arrow keys to slide tiles without the mouse and compare how it feels.
  • Watch the In place readout and aim to fix the top row first, then the rest.
  • Raise Shuffle slides to 120 for a harder start, or lower it to 10 for a quick puzzle.
  • Solve the board twice and try to beat your Best number of moves.

Tujuan pembelajaran

  1. 1Plan several moves ahead to reach a target arrangement.
  2. 2Describe a strategy such as solving row by row.
  3. 3Explain that only legal slides keep a puzzle solvable.
  4. 4Use a move counter to compare and improve solutions.

Pertanyaan yang sering diajukan guru

Is the Sliding Tiles simulation free to use?

Yes. It is free, requires no sign-up, and runs in any modern browser, including whiteboards, tablets and phones.

Is every shuffled board solvable?

Yes here. The shuffle makes random legal slides starting from the solved board, so it can always be undone. Of the 9 factorial arrangements, only 181,440 are reachable by legal slides.

How do I slide a tile?

Click any tile in the same row or column as the gap, or press the arrow keys. Sliding a whole row of tiles counts as one move for each tile moved.

What is the hardest start for the 8-puzzle?

The hardest starting positions need 31 moves even when played perfectly, which shows how much planning a small board can demand.
